Reflective Writing of Sustainable Development Goal---Life Below Water---

Assalamualaikum everyone, I'm Nur Aishahtul Najah Binti Ghazali (2110252) and here I'm back again to continue my last reflective writing for the Sustainable Development Goal subject which I'm going to share a little about my experience related to one of the Sustainable Development Goal which is life below water. So, what the Sustainable Development Goal mean by the life below water? Mission statement is "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development". So, do we have anything to do with marine life? The answer is yes, of course we do. Marine life is not only one of our sources of food and drink but it also maintains the world's biodiversity as well as providing opportunities for future generations to recognize and learn about endangered animals and fishes.

Even Allah SWT and Rasullah SWT forbid us human beings to do activities that destroy marine and land life because we are considered as ungrateful for the blessings that Allah SWT has bestowed to us. So, what are our actions as a step that initiates the revolution of improvement for this problem? As a university student, I believe we need to limit the use of plastic goods which is the main cause of marine pollution in the world because the high demand for plastic goods will encourage the elevated of production of plastic goods and even modern society is still thinking of ways to increase their profits selling goods plastic that drives them to produce goods made from substances which are more difficult to recycle such as polystyrene. I believe that the university has conducted many campaigns and initiatives to overcome this problem. One of the methods used by the university is to charge the price of plastic and food containers to buyers to reduce the use of plastic among students. This encourages students to bring their own food container to buy food.

At first, I personally felt this action was very inconvenient for the students because the students need the food containers and plastic to get their food in a short time and in a desperate situation coupled with the increase in food prices in cafes that put a burden on underprivileged students. However, if you think back, I realize that the actions introduced by this university taught me to always be grateful for the blessings of Allah SWT and strive to get something because effort does not betray us mainly because Allah SWT always loves people who strive and trust in Him. If you think back, the practice of bringing our own food container can indirectly guarantee the cleanliness of our food, at least we do not have to eat food on containers or plates that are not known to be clean in addition to contributing to the conservation of marine life. Also, based on my experience, if we don’t want to bring our own food container to take food, we can dine-in at the cafe. This indirectly encourages students to go to cafes with their friends and spend their time with their friends together which strengthens friendships instead of buying food and eating in the room alone .

Through this, we can confirm that the action of the university that charges students money for plastic and food containers gives many benefits indirectly to students and society although initially, the main objective of this action is only to reduce the use of plastic in the university. I think that's all from me and thank you very much for reading my sharing. May Allah bless us.
